LISTENING
1) DEFINITION OF LISTENING
        a. Paying attention to what is being said and waiting to understand the message
        b. What is the difference between listening and hearing
        c. Hearing      : Involves only ears
        d. Listening   : Involves ears mind and even eyes

2) TYPES OF LISTENING
        a. Appreciative Listening
                Listening for enjoyment of appreciation
                ( Listen to Music, Comedian or Drama )
        b. Informational Listening
                Listen to acquire information and ideas
                ( Listen to Class Lecture, etc )
        c. Evaluative Listening
                Evaluative what to hear, note strenghs and weakness

3) BASIC RULER OF LISTENING
        a. Prepare For listening
                Prepare yourself so you can see, hear, and avoid distraction
        b. Have The Proper Attitude
                Develop a positive toward the speaker and the topic
        c. Listen Actively
                Consentrate on the verbal and non verbal message
        d. Listen Critically
                Detect prejudice, bias
        e. Take Note When Appropriate

4) HOW TO BE A GOOD LISTENER
        a. Become a good conversionalist
        b. Give other opportunity to talk
        c. Interested what other have to say
        d. Know how to obtain and remember valuable information
        e. Receive valuable insight into what makes a speaker effective


SPEAKING
I. PERSON TO PERSON
   a.   What you say reflect your personality
   b.   You can make people like or dislike you
   c.   People accept or reject you by what you say and how you say
Try these suggestion when you engaged in person to person
A. When You Are Talking
        -  Have something to say
        -  Use words understandable
 
       - Repeat statement for clarification
        -  Use listener name or “You”
        -  Answer question frankly when possible
        -  Show a sense of humor without offending
        -  Give/encourage a listener a change to talk
        -  Maintain eye contact, use a pleasant tone of voice
        -  Speak at moderate rate, be sincere and natural
        -  Think of listener’s interests and concern
        -  Be interesting
B. When The Other Talking
        - Be a good listener 
        - Maintain eye contact
        - Use verbal reinforces like “YES” or “I AGREE”
        - Don’t judge the speaker through verbal or non verbal responses
        - Occasionally nod head in approval
        - Have Pleasant facial expression
        - Show interest don’t look or turn away from the speaker
        - Don’t interrupt. Focus throught on speaker ‘s idea

II. GROUP SPEAKING
    Speaking before group is skill you can develop you must first convince yourself that you can master the techniques of preparing and giving talk.

        - Know your audience
        - Determine your purpose
        - Choose and limit your topic
        - Collect your information
        - Organize your information
        - Prepare your detailed outlane
        - Plan your presentation
        - Practiceyour presentation

TECHNIQUES OF GIVING A TALK :
a. Maintain self confidence and poise
b. Make a favorable personal impression
c. Avoid objection mannerism 
d. Speak clearly and correctly
e. Involve the audience
